Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard is now fully involved in a once cold case of child abuse. Cobb County Police are re-opened the case on Monday.  The investigation started when Howard was accused of beating his 6-year-old son with a belt buckle. He admitted that he did it but did not know it was wrong because he was hit as a child.

A Cobb County sergeant told NBC News that the investigation is coming from an alleged incident that happened over the summer. They previously did not have enough evidence to proceed in a full blown investigation, but new information came to light.

Howard has only responded to media through his attorney’s guidance. When asked about earlier allegations of child abuse, the All Star player gave a statement to The Orlando Sentinel. “It is troubling to see a mother use her son as a pawn against his father, which is what is happening in this case,” the statement read. “Dwight Howard will continue to act in the best interest of his children and do whatever is necessary to protect their welfare and best interests.”

The story comes on the heels of Adrian Peterson being suspended by the NFL for a similar case of child abuse.  Peterson used a switch on his four year old son that left him covered in cuts.   Roger Goodell suspended the running back for the remainder of the season.
