Saying head coach Chip Kelly messed around too much with the Philadelphia Eagles would be an understatement and apparently the Eagles organization have had enough. After an offseason that led to him signing free-agent flop DeMarco Murray, trading LeSean McCoy and orchestrating the trade that brought Sam Bradford to Philly, Kelly has officially worn out his welcome.

During his time in Philly, Kelly ended his tenure with a record of 26-21 with one playoff appearance during his first year. The Eagles had a pretty good chance of winning the NFC East this year, but they were not able to hold any of their leads. They had a chance on capturing the NFC East title despite their record being 6-8 last week, but played an uninspired game against the Washington Redskins.

Eagles owner, Jeffrey Lurie has released a statement in the wake of Kelly’s firing, “I have made a decision to release Chip Kelly this evening…I spent the last three seasons evaluating the many factors involved in our performance as a team. As I watched this season unfold, I determined that it was time to make a change. We appreciate all the contributions that Chip Kelly made and wish him every success going forward.” The Eagles have wasted no time in replacing Kelly and have chosen offensive coordinator, Pat Shurmur as their interim head coach. Many predicted that this was going to happen eventually and it comes as no surprise.

Regardless of the reasons, Kelly will not be out of a job for long. It is more than likely that Kelly will return to being a college head coach which is/was a better fit for him or maybe a reunion with Marcus Mariota in Tennessee!
