It has not been easy for the Philadelphia Eagles, but they are 3-1 to start the season. Last night was a huge NFC East game that looked to favor the New York Giants. However, when the game started neither team looked great. Both were having difficulties with their offensive line not allowing their respective quarterbacks any time to set up. Both teams do have major injuries concerning their offensive lines. However, this game just looked like a walk through. There was never any excitement for either team. The Eagles did gain momentum towards the end when Eli Manning threw an awful interception in the end zone that resulted in a Philadelphia field goal.
The game came down to a two point lead for Philadelphia with New York getting the ball for the last drive of the game. The Giants had great field position all night in thanks to rookie David Wilson who exploded for 217 returning yards. The Giants moved their way down the field to put themselves in decent field goal position with a fresh set of downs. This was their biggest mistake of the night. Instead of just going for the field goal and giving the Eagles maybe two seconds left on the clock, they decided to see if they could get any closer or possibly get the touchdown.
Instead, Manning threw a long pass intended for rookie Ramses Barden who was given a flag for offensive pass interference. Barden must have forgotten that the real referees were back and would definitely make that call. This caused the Giants to move back and lose precious playing time. Lawrence Tynes was forced to attempt a 54 yard kick. Tynes was perfect all season, but we knew that eventually the streak would be broken. This just was not the time that the Giants wanted to see it happen. Now New York is 0-2 versus NFC East opponents. The Giants who usually start off very strong have had their fair share of struggles so far. Luckily, they play the Cleveland Browns which should be a favorable matchup for them, but this team does not like to win when they are picked as the favorite. The Eagles, however, face another rival as they travel to Pittsburgh to take on Big Ben and the Steelers.
Just you wait till my Week 4 wrap. Let’s just say we have a difference in opinion. 😉
The G-Men played way too agressive in the last drive. They just needed dinks and dunks to get them another 5-10 yards to put Tynes closer. Unuaually bad coaching by the OC.
Nice article Ashleigh!
Thanks! =) I definitely agree that there was no need to go for the long pass, but Eli is normally so clutch in the 4th, but it shows the Giants really need Nicks back.
Absolutely! But it sounds like his knee isn’t improving…well, they play Cleveland this week so they don’t need to worry about Nicks returning right now.
I agree that it should be a win for them, but the Giants never play well in games that should be easy for them so I am still a little nervous. If they can’t win this game then I know their playoff hopes are dead.
