Imagine- you’re given the rankings of the most eligible bachelors based on a series of statistics; you can even set your own preferences and compatibility. This my pigskin loving ladies is the 2014 NFL Fantasy Football Draft. As men prepare for long nights reclining in tattered jerseys of seasons past, watching as the fate of their fantasy team falls on the golden foot of Gostkowski or the arm of their last-minute draftee, Josh McCown, the female need not settle on months of silence from their significant other. This is the time to take ‘Fantasy Football’ to a whole new level.
The woman’s stereotypical draft plan may rely solely on the chiseled physiques and bright smiles dawning the covers GQ and magazine ads, but do not let the simple click of a button fool you. Take control of your competitive nature, DO SOME RESEARCH. Nothing will impress the men at the bar or the man in your bed more than discussing some stats from your fantasy team. No back couches this season; it’s time for the female population to take back fantasy football and do some major credit damage.
Instead of discussing the seductive Fifty series, which let’s be honest ladies the grey tie is getting old, or planning a wine night, start or join your own league for free through the NFL website. You can still bake puffed pastry h’orderves! I promise you, taking part in the draft will be more exciting than free shipping on all H&M products and more competitive than grabbing the last seat at the bar next to the young business professionals.
Like every great Black Friday shopper, you must understand the rules of the game and have a plan of action to succeed. Fantasy football is easy, you select a player on the list that you like and hit ‘draft player’. The season consists of 16 game weeks, running from September 4 through December 8, 2014. In order to get the most points for your team, make sure your draft is BEFORE the first game of the season, logical thinking ladies.
Though I can’t guarantee an exceptional draft where you get every desirable athlete, a winning game plan makes for a winning team.
1. Start off by doing some research; in the 21st century we can utilize Google and find cheat-sheets that other people create. Football knowledge makes the ladies look sexy. Or, if you have analytical minds create your own process for selecting players.
2. When in doubt, choose names that look familiar. Worst case scenario, draft the next highest ranked player that hasn’t yet been selected.
3. The Beatles are wrong, you don’t always have to be true to your school. So you think your team is the best, great! This is a chance for creativity and making YOUR DREAM TEAM.
4. Don’t let the countdown clock stress you out. This isn’t ebay, you’re not going to lose out on a pick. You’ll get the gently used leather jacket, the color just might vary from the original choice.
5. Have fun with it! We aren’t betting money, just a free dinner or maybe a week of no dishes…
