If you live in the Tampa Bay or San Diego area, you’ve definitely heard the name Michelle Margaux.

Margaux was the on-field reporter for Fox Sports San Diego, covering the Padres. She was also on Fox Sports Sun, covering the Tampa Bay Rays. Michelle’s most recent venture was in Houston, covering the Astros and Rockets. She was kind enough to take time out of her busy schedule and sit down for an exclusive interview.

Aly Riley: You worked for both the Tampa Bay Rays and San Diego Padres. What did you enjoy the most about working in baseball?

Michelle Margaux: The thing I loved the most about working in baseball was seeing all the different ballparks. There’s so much history in the older stadiums and I found it so exciting!

AR: Where did you attend college and who inspired you?

MM: I went to the University of San Diego! (Go Toreros!) There were a lot of people who inspired me, but I never wanted to follow in anybody’s footsteps. I always wanted to be myself and follow my passion wherever it took me.

AR: How did you stay patient and confident while waiting for your big break?

MM: I didn’t stay patient. I rarely felt comfortable or complacent. You have to give yourself confidence when nobody else does.

AR: You recently worked for the Houston Rockets basketball team. Was it hard to transition from the dugout to court side?

MM: It’s definitely a different sport. They’re covered differently and the fans are different, too. It wasn’t “hard”, but there was no doubt, a learning curve.

AR: Finally, do you have any tips for college graduates trying to do what you are doing?

MM: BE FLUID with the way the industry is going. Sideline reporting may not exist in ten years so don’t set your sights on “only” being a sideline reporter, and ALWAYS follow your heart, not the money.

Michelle Margaux is a true example of how you should always be your own biggest fan, how to grow in the business, and that every day is a chance to learn something new!
