Two things that may not seem likely to mix together are fashion and football, but Tommy Hilfiger’s 30th anniversary celebration fashion show proved that the combination was a match made in fashion week heaven.
Over the weekend, the designer, or Tommy, as everybody casually refers to him, held one of the most amazing and interactive runway shows I have ever seen. The properly executed idea of a fashion football stadium came to life during New York Fashion Week at the Park Avenue Armory, where major celebs like Olivia Palermo, her husband Johannes Huebl, and Rita Ora were in attendance, front row of course.
Models like Gigi Hadid, Liu Wen, and Jordan Dunn, took to the runway with their best game face on, while decked out in the most awesome team gear inspired leather dresses and jackets. The models strutted down the runway, or field if you may, in Hilfiger’s football inspired wedges, yes, they looked exactly like they were made out of footballs. To make things even more creative, the call cards for models were actually inspired by actual collectible sports cards, featuring a photo of each model in football jerseys.
Though of course a show this major was invite only, Hilfiger took to Instagram to show off the invitations that were sent out and it was no surprise that they emulated a ticket to a football game perfectly. Speaking of Instagram, the American designer invited his Instagram followers to follow along with hashtags like #TommyFall15, #lineup, and #drafted. Fully equipped with a jumbotron, goal posts, pennants, and foam fingers, it has easily become one of the coolest shows, not only from this past week, but over all, and it only gets better.
Aside from A-list celebs like Palermo and Ora, supportive athletes like Victor Cruz were in attendance. New York Giants wide receiver Cruz was happy to be there and show his support, and even gushed about how long he’s been a fan of Hilfiger. Later, Cruz posed for a photo opp with New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Ora, and Hilfiger’s wife to name a few.
Everything from the guests, to the collection, to the field was properly thought out and it really set the bar high for future designers that may want to follow in his foot steps. This can easily be considered one of the most coveted shows of the season. The collection gives a new life to the brand and pretty much reinvented it. It is wearable for the fashionista who wants to make a statement, but is also perfect for game days to come in fall 2015. Hilfiger did a lot of things with his show as a whole, and one of those things was making the audience aware that fashion and sports are absolutely okay to combine!
