This is why we have been taught not to procrastinate. Unfortunately for Elvis Dumervil it might not have been his fault. Dumervil has been going back and forth with the Denver Broncos trying to work out a contract before the team would be forced to release him.
In 2009, Dumervil had signed a six year, $61.5 million contract that was “out of whack” as John Elway put it and did not work with their 2013 roster. He was scheduled to make $12 million in 2013. Quarterback Peyton Manning is scheduled to make $20 million and it would have been far too much money for two players. Wanting to stay in Denver, the defensive end agreed to take a pay cut at 3:25 PM today, 35 minutes ahead of the 4:00 deadline.
Everyone was happy with the agreement and thought it was a done deal. However, at 4:00 Dumervil became a free agent. So what happened? Dumervi’s agent did not fax the necessary paperwork over in time. So at 3:59, the Broncos released Dumervil and at 4:07 the NFL received the paperwork. It is uncertain just how this situation will play out, but I think it is time for Dumervil to get a new agent!
