What a shocker! Syracuse was finally handed its first lost and it was to a non-ranked Notre Dame team. The final score ended up being 67-58. Notre Dame fans stormed the court once the team had beaten the Orange. It is certainly not the first time the Irish have taken out number one seeded teams. They have done it eight times which is second only to UNC who has done twelve. Syracuse was without it’s center Fab Melo and will be without him in their next game against Cincinnati.
The school gave no official reasoning. “We had all week to prepare for Melo (not playing). We didn’t know for sure (he would not play), but we were prepared for it,” Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim said, without elaborating on the reasons. Without Melo, Syracuse lost the very important rebound game 38-25.
