Coming off their victory against the Missouri Tigers, it looked like nothing could stop the Gators from going undefeated. Fast forward two days and  it looks like the Gators are going to lose one very important member of their football team, their QB Will Grier. As a freshman, Grier has been the Gators starting QB since the beginning of this season.  However, Florida has wasted no time in addressing the issue of a new quarterback and has named Treon Harris the starter for next week against LSU.

Grier’s suspension comes after being tested for performance enhancing drugs and the test came back positive. Grier admitted this yesterday during a press conference, citing the cause was an OTC medication. Grier failed to check what was in said medication and tearfully admitted his regret, “I did not check with the medical staff before taking it. I hope that people can learn from this, learn from my mistake. I’m really sorry to everyone, just really sorry.” Surely, Grier will have time to think about his decision and to improve on his skills in preparation for next season.

Grier has played in all six games this season, completed 106 of 161 attempted passes, averaging 200 passing yards a game, ten passing touchdowns along with 2 rushing touchdowns to only three interceptions. Gators HC Jim McElwain has released a statement about the suspension, “We as a university will appeal this, and we support Will and his family…” which addresses the question on if Grier will appeal the ban. Even if Grier doesn’t win his appeal, McElwain announced that Grier would still be practicing with the team.
