It was one of the saddest stories of last season. Dallas Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent was found responsible in the death of good friend and teammate Jerry Brown. It all went down at the end of last season when the two were out partying and drinking with other teammates. They left together, Brent, the driver, was intoxicated and crashed his Mercedes. When officers arrived at the scene, he was seen trying to pull his friend from the car which had already caught on fire, but it was too late.
He was charged with intoxication manslaughter. Prosecutors claim that Brent was traveling at 110 MPH and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.18, more than twice the legal limit. He was convicted today and is facing up to 20 years in jail. Brent has since retired from the league and has gotten the support of Stacey Jackson, the mother of Jerry Brown. What makes this story so sad is how this was all preventable. All they had to do was call a driver that is provided to them by both the league and the team.
