As if the New York Giants needed anymore negativity around them, former Giants’ defensive tackle had his own opinion. Chris Canty, now with the Baltimore Ravens, was asked about Justin Tuck’s comment about punching anyone in the face who turns on Coach Coughlin. Canty, who won a Super Bowl with New York, had this to say,
“Justin needs to worry about punching opposing offenses in the mouth. The way you show that you have your coach’s back is by going out there on that football field and performing.”
While Canty is not wrong, where did that come from? The fearsome foursome that was one the Giants defensive line has definitely been eaten alive by opposing offensive lines, but is this bitterness coming from Canty because he was cut by the Giants in February? It was definitely a surprising move by New York as Canty already has two sacks this year, while the Giants as a team have four; tied for the lowest in the NFL with another 0-4 team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Canty and Tuck were teammates and never showed any ill will towards each other. Hopefully the Giants can find this as motivation to be tougher on defense because they can use all the help they can get. They play the Eagles on Sunday, a team that many consider to be equally as bad as the Giants and a team with a weak offensive line. Maybe this week, Justin Tuck will put his money where his mouth is and shut Chris Canty up.
