While the days of no sports continue to stack up, many of us have had to rely on other things to get us through the week(s). From professional athletes, broadcasters to fans, the new fad that has swept the sports world is TikTok.
TikTok, an app that lets one create a profile and content for others to follow, comment and share, has created a platform for all to enjoy during our social distancing. Many of the viral TikTok videos are made up of dances with certain popular songs and captions. They also can be in the form of a challenge.
The most recent challenge that has made quite a stir is the “Flip the Switch” challenge. Names such as Alex Rodriguez aka A-Rod an analyst for FOX MLB and Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo have taken part in the challenge. The challenge takes place in the bathroom mirror. The two participants swap clothes as the lights turn on and off to the lyrics, “I just flipped the switch, flipped, flipped” in Nonstop by Drake. Unfortunately, for A-Rod and Giannis the swap of clothes was not in their favor. Changing into dresses their significant other was wearing. Both were hilariously too small and tight for one’s body figure.
For Los Angeles Laker LeBron James, he and his family have found enjoyment in making a number of TikTok dance videos. While the 3-time NBA champion shows off his best moves, the real star of the videos is James’ five-year-old daughter Zhuri James. Not shying away from the camera, Zhuri shows off her dance skills front and center.
A few others that have taken part in the quarantine TikTok fun, is sports reporter and analyst Rosalyn Gold-Onwude, NBA retiree Dwyane Wade, Philadelphia 76er Matisse Thybulle and Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.
For some, these videos may be annoying. However, as we reflect on what is happening around the world today, many of us have been able to enjoy the entertainment these videos bring us. TikTok has given families and friends another way to lighten the mode through these tough times.
