110313_gary-kubiak_600A very scary moment to witness that made almost everyone forget that there was a football game going on.  Texans head coach Gary Kubiak collapsed to his knees as he attempted to run off the field during halftime. He was in such serious pain that he could not open his eyes or get himself back up. Immediately, the medical staff rushed to his side and put him on the stretcher. Grimacing in pain, he still had his eyes shut, but appeared to be talking.  He was rushed to the hospital with family by his side, where he remains today.

Many people who have been in contact with Kubiak says he is in “good spirit” while he recovers in the hospital.  Te Texans say that he is also alert which is a great sign. Doctors are running tests to see if Kubiak suffered a stroke on the sideline.  Hopefully, that is not the case, but he was given an IV with  tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) which is designed to break up any blood clots.  Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips took over the role of head coach in the secod half.  Everyone was shaken up that night including players who clearly could not focus on the game. The Texans coughed a 21-3 lead in the second half.  Adam Schefter reported that dehydration may have played a part in Kubiak collapsing.

This is one of the worst things to see ever happen.  It comes just days after Broncos head coach John Fox felt light headed while golfing. He will miss significant time when he goes for heart surgery this week.  It is unknown if Kubiak will miss any time this season, but football is just a game and we are all hoping he makes a full and speedy recovery!
