After weeks of hearing he is ready, he isn’t ready; New England Patriots’ tight end Rob Gronkowski has been cleared to play according to his agent. Â Gronkowski’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus stated, “Rob has now been cleared by all his doctors to play Sunday in the Jets game.” Â This comes just two days after it was announced that Dr. James Andrews did not clear him. Â Head coach Bill Bellichick had no comment on the tight end’s status for Sunday’s game against the Jets and instead said the injury report would be available later today.
Gronk has been sidelined all season after undergoing multiple surgeries in the offseason. Â The surgery on his forearm, which he re-injured last season, was the one holding him up from playing. Â There were reports that his absence was causing tension in the Patriots’ locker room, something the Patriots denied. Â Many players wondered why Gronk could go full speed in practice, but was not ready to take the field especially in a season where they are extremely undermanned. Â New England has still gotten off to a hot start with a 5-1 record, the only loss coming against the Cincinnati Bengals.
