Two former teammates going two totally different directions. Let’s start with the bad news. Roy Halladay is an exceptional pitcher. You know when you are forced to face him, your team is in for quite the challenge. However, he has not quite looked like the Cy Young winner of late. In fact, in his last start he did not even last past two innings. Well, Phillies fans received some pretty devastating news about their ace. Halladay was diagnosed with a Grade 1/Grade 2 strain of the latissimus dorsi. I am not quite sure what that means either, but it is definitely not good because the pitcher will be out for at least 6 weeks. The injury requires the pitcher to rest and cannot try to throw a baseball for at least 3 weeks. This is an awful blow for an already beat up Phillies team who are missing two of their biggest bats in Chase Utley and Ryan Howard.
In some better news, fellow pitcher Roy Oswalt has officially inked a deal with the Texas Rangers. Unfortunately, we probably won’t see him in action until the end of June. Oswalt still needs to pass a physical. If he does, he will receive $4 million guaranteed of the $8 million contract. The Rangers always seemed like the top choice for the Mississippi native who wants to be close to home and already has an established relationship with the team’s president, Nolan Ryan. Oswalt will start in the minors to establish his arm strength.
