Is it just me or did anyone ever think that the New Kids on the Block song should be David Wright’s batting song? I digress. Well it was certainly a great surprise today when I turned on the Mets vs. Phillies game and saw that David Wright was playing. In the second game of a three game series, the Mets put Jon Niese [new nose and all] on the mound against the Phillies young star, Vance Worley. Well David Wright made us all take a notice that he was back in the lineup when he took the first pitch he saw 430 feet deep. That might actually be a home run in Citifield.
He was 3-for-5 for the day with only a couple of shaky throws. Three Mets’ pitchers combined for a six-hit shutout of a very lackluster Phillies offense who is missing many key components and it shows. They are no longer the power house offense that they were when they won the World Series. However, the Mets look like the complete opposite of the team they were expected to be. Who knew the Mets would be 6-2 to open the season? You have a better chance of knowing the Mega Millions numbers than predicting the Mets to have a winning season in April when a year ago they were 5-13. The Mets go for the sweep in Philadelphia, something they have not accomplished since 2006.
