The Houston Texans’ defense has been a powerhouse thus far in the season. JJ Watt has been absolutely amazing at keeping pressure on the quarterback even recording at least one sack per game. Even with his impressive numbers, it seems that he is going to need to take on an even bigger role in the defense.
Houston’s leading takler, Brian Cushing, has been declared out for the season with a torn ACL. Cushing suffered the injury during the second quarter after a block by Matt Slauson. Cushing recorded 38 tackles for the season to help his team get off to a 5-0 start. He was replaced by Tim Dobbins who had a good performance himself, finishing the night with four tackles and a pass deflection. Dobbins will likely start at linebacker for the rest of the season. Houston is no stranger to injuries. When they entered the post season last year, they had third string quarterback T.J. Yates as their starter.
It would be quite sad to see this team not be able to stay healthy for another year because they are truly a talented bunch that deserves to see victory in the postseason. Houston is going to need to rely on Arian Foster and the dominant running game as wide receiver Andre Johnson has not quite looked like the same superstar that people have come to expect from the ten year veteran. The special teams unit is also struggling as they gave up another punt return for a touchdown to Joe McKnight after giving one up in Miami to Marcus Thigpen. The Texans take on the Packers on Sunday. The Packers are coming off an emotional loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
its going to be tough for the Texans after losing such an emotional leader on defense. Time for jj watt to step up
Do you think this will affect them in the playoffs against the likes of the Ravens or Patriots?
This team definitely has the talent to bounce back, but it is an emotional loss that can affect the morale of this team. However, this team has been prone to injury and have not recovered.
