It has been a season to forget for the Houston Texans who find themselves at 2-11 after a loss to the Jaguars last night. They are on an eleven game losing streak and are now in line for the first pick in the 2014 draft pick. It has been a season full of drama and finally the Texans took some action. At a press conference, Texans CEO Robert McNair said, “Gary Kubiak is no longer the head coach.”
It is not a surprising move, but one that may not improve the team drastically. This team did not have a quarterback to start the season, and may or may not have one to end it. All three quarterbacks on the roster, Matt Schaub, TJ Yates, and Case Keenum, have been benched at some point in the season. They will likely turn to the draft for a new one. They also lost their main running back in Arian Foster for the season, but Ben Tate did a decent job in his absence. He has been playing banged up, but he is not what Foster was for this team.
Kubiak had a climactic season as well. Everyone watched as he was unable to get up after collapsing on the sideline during a game against the Indianapolis Colts. It was discovered that he suffered a mini-stroke on the sideline. He had made a return to coaching, but from the coach’s box instead. It is not likely that he will stay unemployed for long, but this could be good for him to take some time away from the stress of football. I fully expect to see a team hire Kubiak in some coaching capacity next season.
