Ed Reed was once part of the vaunted Baltimore Ravens defense. He always seemed to know where the ball was going, and was always able to get to it before the receiver. After winning the Super Bowl last season, Reed decided to leave the city he became a star and try living in the South. He signed a 3 year/$15 million contract with the Houston Texans. Reed, however, was a shell of his former self. He has led the league in interceptions in three seasons and is considered one of the best safeties in the history of the National Football League.
The 35-year-old safety needed surgery in the offseason to repair a torn labrum. He did not participate in any offseason workouts and started training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform List. When he was healthy to play, he saw his drastically reduced over time. Reed only had 16 tackles in the seven games he played. It was inevitable that the Texans would let him walk after he made comments saying that his team was “outplayed and outcoached”. The Texans, in general, are having a very disappointing season after big dreams of winning a Super Bowl in the preseason. It is unclear if this is the end of Reed’s career, but it does look that way. The Dallas Cowboys discussed bringing Reed in for a tryout, but that appears unlikely.
