Superman can now add a new record to his list of accomplishments. Dwight Howard, center for the Orlando Magic, took an amazing 39 free throws last night against the Golden State Warriors. The record previously stood at 33 by Wilt Chamberlain. The Warriors may have been undersized, but that is just pathetic. Howard, who is a poor free throw shooter, made 21 out of the 39 shots and ended the night with a career-high 45 points. Howard had been struggling this year, but you would never know by his performance last night. The Warriors just gave up foul after foul to Howard. Orlando head coach, Stand Van Gundy, appeared to just sit back during the game instead of his usual screaming on the sideline saying he knew there was no point in running a play when they were just going to foul Howard. Howard also finished the game with 23 rebounds. The last player to have at least 40 points and 20 rebounds was Shaquille O’Neal on March 1, 2003. “I just tried to be aggressive and get to the line. I didn’t care if I missed 30,” Howard said. “I was still going to go up there and shoot the next one with confidence.”
