It was only a matter of time before the 2020 Olympics either got delayed or canceled altogether. The coronavirus outbreak has put sports on hold for the foreseeable future. The International Olympic Committee has decided to delay the games a full year. The full details will be released within the next four weeks.
This decision comes after USA Swimming and USA Track and Field called for the games to be postponed. USA Swimming CEO Tim Hinchey III called it the “right and responsible thing to do”. The Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Committees also announced they would not send any athletes to compete in the games unless they are postponed.
The sports world came to a stunning halt when Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19. Since then athletes in almost all of the major sporting leagues have tested positive. The 2020 Olympics are just the latest event to be delayed. A decision had to be made in a timely fashion. Olympic athletes train for months for these games and it would be unfair to ask them to compete. Hopefully, in a year life will be back to normal and sports will be on our televisions once again.
We want to send our continued gratitude for all of the healthcare workers, grocery store workers, delivery drivers, and all other essential workers keeping America running during this difficult time.
