With the trade deadline quickly approaching, the biggest mystery is whether or not the Los Angeles Lakers will retain their big man. The Lakers acquired Dwight Howard in the offseason and thought that with him and point guard Steve Nash the Lakers would have a good supporting cast around superstar Kobe Bryant. Everyone seemed happy to play together until they actually had to start playing together. The chemistry was clearly lacking and it was only accelerated by the hiring of head coach Mike D’Antoni.
Most assumed that it would take a while, but that this team would eventually get it together. On paper they had an MVP point guard, one of the most dominant big men in the game, and a super star some consider the best in the league. Instead, they got an aging point guard who is good, but far from his former self, a big man with a bad back and shoulder, and a super star who is now playing the role of a facilitator.
The Lakers are not in the playoffs race. Nothing seems to be going right. So what would you do as Dwight Howard? When you think about it, this does seem to be a win win situation, if you pause your Cheekybingo.com game long enough to think it over. The Lakers have said that they plan on making Dwight Howard a franchise player even after Kobe Bryant retires, but then they hire a coach who is not known for working well with big men. Bryant and Howard do not have the same ideals when it comes to the sport. Bryant only cares about winning and anything less is considered a failure, while Howard is still young and just wants to enjoy life and have fun.
Jim Buss has repeated that the team has no intentions of trading Howard, but could that be because no team wants to deal with his baggage? Howard is far from healthy and has been playing at less than 100% the entire season. Clearly, he will get healthier and will return to his dominant self if all goes well, but he will never be happy until he signs with Brooklyn. So unless you are Brooklyn, don’t sign this guy! He will not be happy and he will make it very well known. It seems like the Lakers only got Dwight Howard for our entertainment, but I can’t even call it that anymore.
