Congratulations to Florida State University quarterback Jameis Winston on winning the Heisman trophy. It comes as no surprise that Winston wins as he led his team to an undefeated season and a spot in the BCS Championship game. The vote was a landslide with Winston getting 2,205 points, while Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron came in second with 704 points.
The freshman had one of the greatest seasons in college football history. He set freshman records for passing yards with 3,820 yards and touchdowns with 38 touchdowns. He also leads the country in yards per attempts at 10.9 yards and adjusted QBR at 90.9.
Despite all of his success on the field, it was not quite so perfect off the field. His season was overshadowed when a woman came forward accusing him of sexual assault. Charges were never filed, but the idea that something may have happened has not faded from people’s memory. He was left completely off 115 Heisman ballots. He is the second straight freshman quarterback to win the award. The other being fellow finalist Johnny Manziel.
