At age 20, Jared Goff is the starting quarterback for the California Golden Bears and if you asked his peers at Cal, he has to be one of the best quarterbacks in the game right now and many have even referred to him as “perfect.”
Perfect seems like a strong word for such a young guy and if anything proved that Goff isn’t perfect, it has to be Cal’s game against the Utah Utes where Goff really showed that perfect is far from the first word many should describe him as.
It looked like Goff was on a campaign to make the Golden Bears undefeated, but the Utes decided that Mr. Perfect needed to be knocked down a peg or two. In their game against the Utes this past Saturday, Goff completed 25 of his 47 pass attempts and the Utes’ defense was pretty busy, picking off FIVE of Goff’s throws. Goff did throw two touchdowns during the game and the score wasn’t terrible, leaving it 30-24 with Utah on top.
However, five interceptions and two touchdowns is nothing to be proud of and really didn’t impress anyone who watched the game. Goff’s poor decision-making should be what he tried to improve the most and looking at the rest of the season, Goff has plenty of time to perfect and sharpen his abilities. If Goff ends up coming back to Cal for his senior year next year, he should be able to make vast improvements and become  NFL ready.
Goff is set to be the one of the top prospects for the NFL and has already been assumed as one of the finalists for the Heisman trophy. If Goff can improve slowly each week, he could become a top NFL prospect, a possible Heisman trophy winner and maybe live up to his nickname. For right now though, Goff should be seen as a good quarterback who could possibly run an NFL franchise some day but college is where he is thriving now. The focus should be on his college career and not comparisons to NFL QBs already.
