In a move that was destined to fail from the beginning, the New York Jests have released quarterback Tim Tebow. This moves comes only days after the Jets drafted quarterback Geno Smith in the second round. Head coach Rex Ryan released this statement, “We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow. Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped. Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this offseason. We wish him the best moving forward.” Pretty basic statement for a guy who clearly wanted no part in the Tebow trade.
So far it seems that new General Manager John Idzik is trying to clean up the mess that he inherited when he took this job. It is clear that he is not one for the publicity factor and genuinely cares about the state of the team. While this is a good first step, there is still a lot of work to be done for this team to ever be relevant in the playoffs again. The Jets still owe the Broncos $1.53 million for this mess. It is sad how poorly this entire trade was handled and the lack of concern for what they were doing to Tebow and any possible future in the NFL.
How does Mark Sanchez still have a job? Nice guys really do finish last.
