The Mark Sanchez era in New York has finally come to an end. The Jets announced they have released their former starting quarterback. Sanchez missed all of last season after needing shoulder surgery after injuring it during a preseason game against the New York Giants.
Sanchez has had a very well documented career in New York. There were highs that included trips to two AFC Championship games, but they were followed by some very, very lows. Most famously, the “buttfumble” on Thanksgiving against the New England Patriots.
It was clear last year New York was ready to move last season when they drafted Geno Smith in the second round. He struggled last season, but the Jets have acquired WR Eric Decker to help Smith in his sophomore season. The Jets also announced that they have signed former Eagles quarterback Michael Vick.
Vick lost the starting job in Philadelphia to Nick Foles when Foles stepped in when Vick got hurt and performed at a very high level during the season. The Jets have not stated whether Vick or Smith will start next season, but it will be good for the young quarterback to have some competition and a quarterback he can learn from.
