For the second year in a row, the Detroit Tigers suffered a late collapse in the playoffs. It was clearly time for a change in the Motor City. Manager Jim Leyland has decided it was his time to move on and wanted to leave on his terms. Quite fitting for the guy caught smoking in the dugout during a power outage. Leyland is one of the most respected managers in the league and has had a lot of success in Detroit.
The Tigers have won the AL Central the past three seasons and went on to win the American League Title last season. After the defeat in Boston, Leyland got his team together and told them the news. He felt it was time for someone younger to manage the team. Leyland has been a manager for 22 years, only winning one World Series in 1997 with the Marlins. Baseball is losing one of its best managers, and he will be tough to replace.
