When Glen Sather stepped down from his role as president of the New York Rangers organization, the front office wanted to find a passionate, determined, and smart minded individual to take his place. Also someone help the team win their first Stanley Cup since 1994.

After a thorough search, the decision was made and a familiar name received the job: former goaltender and fan favorite, John Davidson.

Ottawa native Davidson spent eight seasons with the Blueshirts, from 1975-1983; having his best season in 1975-76 with a twenty-two win season. Following his forced retirement from hockey due to injury, MSG Networks hired Davidson to be a part of their hockey broadcast team alongside Sam Rosen. Davidson would remain on the Rangers telecasts up until the end of the 2006 season. He was replaced by current analyst Joe Micheletti.

After a successful hockey and broadcasting career, Davidson decided to change things up and oversee from a brand new perspective. From June 2006 to October 2012, Davidson was president of the St. Louis Blues organization. He decided to buyout his contract and take the same role with the Columbus Blue Jackets, a position he held up until he resigned to take the Rangers offer.

“I am excited and humbled to be president of the New York Rangers. I want to thank James Dolan for offering me this chance to come home,” Davidson said following his hiring.

Many fans expressed all over social media their excitement and happiness over the news of Davidson’s return to New York, and we all know John himself is definitely happy to be back in the city that never sleeps.
