JOHN_FOX_JL82Yesterday, the Denver Broncos got some very scary news concerning their head coach.  John Fox was taken to a hospital after feeling light headed while playing golf.  The Broncos have a bye week and Fox was in Charlotte, NC.  While in the hospital, Fox was monitored while doctors ran multiple tests on him.  He was doing well and in good spirits, but it turn out Fox will need to undergo surgery.

He will need aortic valve replacement surgery to repair a pre-existing health condition.  The aortic valve is located in the heart and it is the valve responsible for carrying blood out of the heart.  The procedure is fairly common, but it is still open heart surgery.  Fox was aware that he would need the surgery, but was hoping he could put it off until after the season was over.  Unfortunately, doctors in the hospital said that he could no longer wait and needed the surgery immediately. He is expected to be away from football for at least two months to rest up and get his strength back.

Fox released a statement via the Broncos.

“I sincerely appreciate all of the support from friends, Denver Broncos fans and so many around the league today.  Although I am disappointed I must take some time away from the team to attend to this pre-existing health condition, I understand that it’s the right thing to do. I have great confidence in our coaches and players, who are fully committed to our goals.  I look forward to returning to coaching as soon as possible.”

Some of the players also sent out their well wishes to their head coach.Screen shot 2013-11-03 at 10.38.01 AM

No word on who will be the interim coach for Denver while Fox is away recovering.  Expect an announcement later today.  Prayers for John Fox and his family as they deal with this serious matter.  Hopefully, this is not the last we see John Fox out there this season!
