From a farm boy to a bench boy, it looks like Jordy Nelson’s 2015 season has ended before it could even start. After much speculation on his injury, it has been confirmed that Jordy Nelson sustained a season-ending injury to his right knee. While it has since been confirmed that it is a torn ACL in his right knee and he will not be playing in the 2015 NFL regular season. If it is any consolation, there is no other ligament damage in the knee.
The loss of Nelson is a serious hit to the Packers depth chart since he was their number one receiver. The Packers are now left with Randall Cobb, Jeff Janis, Davante Adams and rookie Ty Montgomery, but Nelson was one of Aaron Rodger’s go-to guys and Rodgers has not been able to hide his disdain for Nelson’s injury or the preseason games. When asked about Nelson’s injury, Rodgers had this to say: “It’s difficult to lose a guy like that in a meaningless game,” which as the kids say is shade being thrown directly at the NFL.
In his career, Nelson has 49 touchdowns, 6,109 receiving yards, only 1 fumble and 400 receptions which is going to be difficult to replace. It was rumored that the Packers would try for veteran WR Reggie Wayne, but Wayne signed a deal with the Patriots today. Since the incident, Nelson has not released any comments or a statement and neither have the Packers except for Rodger’s original statement and hopeful comments by HC Mike McCarthy.
It will definitely be different without Nelson out there, especially for Rodgers. Here’s hoping the Packers can rise above it and Nelson’s recovery will be speedy.
