Yet another athlete has been suspended for violating a drug policy. JR Smith, reigning Sixth Man of the Year, has been suspended for five games for violating the NBA’s substance abuse policy. Smith recently had knee surgery to repair a damaged patella tendon and meniscus in his left knee. Smith had the surgery in mid-July and is expected to be sidelined for three to four months. He signed a 4 year/$24.5 million deal with the New York Knicks.
Smith’s partying ways have long been documented in the press. He has been accused of partying during the Knicks playoff series against the Boston Celtics. Smith did not shoot well against Boston and was suspended for one game after getting into a fight with Jason Terry.
