It just got even worse for Atlanta fans. Last night, the Falcons lost a late second game to the New York Jets and the Atlanta Braves were eliminated from the postseason. As if they were not already feeling down, the Falcons may face the real possibility that they could be without receiver Julio Jones for the rest of the season. Jones suffered an undisclosed foot injury during yesterday’s game. He tried to play through it, but he was seen limping off the field. The Falcons have been dealing with some serious injuries including running back Stephen Jackson, defensive end Kroy Biermann, and linebacker Brian Witherspoon. Biermann and Witherspoon were placed on injured reserve and are done for the year.
Jones had an X-Ray during the game yesterday and it did not reveal any structural damage, but after getting a CT scan, he realized the injury was serious. The Falcons will not say if Jones is definitely done for the year before getting a second opinion. Wide receiver Roddy White was unable to finish Monday’s game, being diagnosed with a hamstring injury. Tight end Tony Gonzalez has always been the most reliable receiver on the team, but without White and Jones as deep threats this team’s season may be over. They are currently 1-4 while the New Orleans Saints sit at the top of the NFC South at 5-0. If Jones does not need to go on IR it would be great news as the Falcons have a bye week and he can get an extra week to rest.
