A football coach isn’t typically responsible for a fumble, but on Tuesday, Jay Gruden was—in the case of his words, that is. According to NBC Sports, the Washington Redskins head coach had a bit of a slip-up at a press conference. Responding to a question about how his quarterbacks are doing so far at training camp, Gruden said, “Alex is doing a pretty good job with that right now. So is Kirk—I mean, so is—Jesus—Colt.”

Whoops.

However, Gruden’s not the only one with Kirk Cousins still on the brain. Fans and players alike are noting differences between new quarterback Alex Smith and his predecessor. Camp started for Washington a few days ago in Richmond, VA, and has given onlookers an opportunity to observe the new (and improved?) quarterback in action. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported that at one point during practice, fans marveled at Smith’s ability to morph a standard pass play into a 50-yard touchdown. One fan even verbalized his doubt that Cousins could’ve executed the same move, saying, “I don’t think Kirk would have found that hole.”

Offensive lineman Trent Williams also commented on Smith’s leadership quality, conveying an undertone of comparison as well: “He’s a leader. He’s always been a leader. You can tell he’s comfortable in that role. He’s what we needed.”

Whatever the case, it’s apparent that Redskins Nation is excited for the upcoming season. Following the first day of training camp, The Veil Brewing Company was the backdrop for a training camp kickoff party, which hosted both fans and some D.C. legends, including Santana Moss and Brian Mitchell. The patio was full, the drinks were cold, and the music was loud. Now the fans are ready for some football!
