Knicks small forward Cleanthony Early is waking up in the hospital after a very scary encounter in Queens. According to the New York Daily News, Early was leaving the strip club CityScapes at around 4:30AM when masked men surrounded his vehicle. The men allegedly demanded that Early hand over his jewelry which included two gold chains that he was wearing. Early did what the men asked, but before the robbers took off, they show him in the right kneecap. Early’s girlfriend who was with him at the time of the shooting was not hurt in the incident.
Early had arthroscopic surgery on the same knee last November. The Knicks released a statement saying they are aware of the situation. Early was taken to the hospital in stable condition. His mother, Sandra Glover, said he is in good spirits. According to Wall Street Journal’s Chris Herring, Early has already been released from the hospital. Early is in second year in the NBA and has only played in ten games.
This robbery is just weeks after his Knicks’ teammate Derrick Williams was robbed by two women. Williams had $600,000 worth of jewelry taken from his apartment.
