During a stoppage in play of the first period during their game against the NY Rangers, the Toronto Maple Leafs honored Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender Johnny Bower. Bower celebrated his 90th birthday on Saturday and was serenaded by a sellout crowd with “Happy Birthday.”
Aside from being a Hall of Fame goaltender, Bower also served with the Canadian Army during World War II. He was stationed in England from 1940-43.
He played a few parts with the Rangers for three seasons in the mid 1950’s and then went on to become a star and legendary goaltender with the Maple Leafs in the 1960’s where he helped the Leafs win the Stanley Cup four times.
