In Sunday’s game, against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Lebron James became the first player to score 20,000 points for the Cleveland Cavaliers franchise. Coming into the game, James only needed six points to reach this landmark. Not too far into the second quarter, Lebron would score a layup to give him 20,001 points in his ten seasons with Cleveland.
He told ESPN staff writer Dave McMenamin “I’m blessed I’ve played with some great teammates in this uniform the last three years and obviously my first seven in the league. Those guys set screens for me, they rebound the ball, kick it to me, they work their tails off for me to be able to put up 20,000 as a Cav. For me, I just got to do my part. That’s bust my butt in workouts, offseason and practices and see what happens. It’s just the teammates I’ve had have given me assists. Like tonight they block shots and let me get out in transition and assisted me. It’s pretty cool.”
Attaining this goal, put James far above the Cavs second- leading franchise scorer, Zydrunas Illgauskas, who had 10,616 points when he was with the Cavaliers. Coming into the game, James had 27,913 career points in 14 seasons split between Cleveland and Miami. That number places James in eighth place in league history for overall career points.
Great job of summing up Lebron’s latest milestone. You are quite the young sports writer.
