lbj-cavs-wiz-01It is official! Lebron James is signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers!  After days and days of speculation, the Akron, Ohio native has decided he is headed back to his hometown team.  James tweeted the picture below to make the announcement official.BsRtuzpCUAElJPe

However, the news broke when Sports Ilustrated’s Lee Jenkins posted an article written by he and James titled “I’m Coming Home”.  In the article, James explains his relationship with his hometown saying,  “My relationship with Northeast Ohio is bigger than basketball. I didn’t realize that four years ago. I do now.”

He discusses his time in Miami and explains that he does not harbor any resentment towards the team that he won two titles with. He explains, “I went to Miami because of D-Wade and CB. We made sacrifices to keep UD. I loved becoming a big bro to Rio. I believed we could do something magical if we came together. And that’s exactly what we did! The hardest thing to leave is what I built with those guys. I’ve talked to some of them and will talk to others. Nothing will ever change what we accomplished. We are brothers for life.  I also want to thank Micky Arison and Pat Riley for giving me an amazing four years.”

James looks to bring championships home to Cleveland, a town that has had a rough history as far as sports.   “Our city hasn’t had that feeling in a long, long, long time. My goal is still to win as many titles as possible, no question. But what’s most important for me is bringing one trophy back to Northeast Ohio,”  he said.

He ends the essay by saying, “I’m ready to accept the challenge. I’m coming home.”

Wow.  I think I speak for everyone when I say this news comes as a complete shock, especially after the terrible fall out when he first announced his decision to head to Miami.  This decision will likely mean the end of Miami’s reign at the top of the Eastern Conference as Chris Bosh will likely head to Houston where he was offered a max contract.  As for Dwyane Wade, who knows, but he will likely stay on the Heat.
