He reached more than most football players can even dream about. Eric LeGrand is the definition of a hero. He always wanted to play in the NFL, but a life changing injury would appear to defer his goal. However, with a lot of hard work and self determination, Eric made all his dreams come true. The former Rutgers tackle was signed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent by his former head coach Greg Schiano. LeGrand is now an author and an inspiration for all those around the world who thought that the impossible would never be possible. However, today he has retired from the NFL to allow someone else to take his roster spot. What is Eric’s goals now? To walk again of course. In this act of selflessness, it shows just how great of a person Eric is. Never once has he felt pity for himself or asked others to feel sorry for him. LeGrand took to his Twitter this morning to express his feelings: “I am retiring as a buccaneer player today, I knew I wouldn’t keep the roster spot forever and my team enters camp today and i want them to // Go in with a full squad of 90 people so I am not in the way of them reaching a championship. Every man counts. I am still a buccaneer for // Life just not as a player. Jerseys are still for sale and I will be a part of the team forever. Can’t wait to be down the on the 17th. // #bucnation on the road to the Super Bowl.” LeGrand truly lives up to his mantra of “Believe”. He has never stopped believing that anything is possible and has put hope into the hearts of others.
