The biggest story in sports has been the bullying reports coming out of the Miami Dolphins locker room. Everyone has an opinion on the story and what it means for professional sports going forward. Dolphins’ teammates have taken Richie Incognito’s side and blamed Jonathan Martin for handling the situation wrong. One person echoing those sentiments is newly acquired left tackle Bryant McKinnie. McKinnie came over from the Baltimore Ravens with a checkered past himself. Recently, he was involved in a party bus accident in which a stripped hit Jacoby Jones over the head with a champagne bottle, allegedly.
McKinnie explained that the situation is being exaggerated by the media. He also told the public, “You heard one side of the story and now you’re starting to hear the other side. So give it time before you make a decision on who’s right or who’s wrong and let it go from there.” That is true. Richie Incognito has actively been trying to clear his name while Jonathan Martin has decided to remain silent. Neither approach is wrong, but it only leaves more room for people to speculate.
McKinnie said that the way the players talk to each other is in an “aggressive” manner because the locker room is and “aggressive environment”. He implied that this situation could have just been one guy getting fed up with another player. That seems to be the very tip of the iceberg in this story. However, until Martin speaks there is no way to know exactly what happened to get him to this point. Martin is expected to speak sometime this week.
