San Francisco 49ers running back Marcus Lattimore has never played in an NFL game and likely never will. Lattimore was a huge prospect during his college days at South Carolina, but suffered one of the ugliest injuries of all time. After suffering a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee in 2011, Lattimore suffered a full knee blowout one year later, tearing every ligament and breaking his kneecap in right knee.
Despite the injuries, the San Francisco 49ers still drafted him in the fourth round that year. The running back sat out all of last season after being placed on the non-football injury list. He also started the season on the NFI list, but things looked hopeful last week when he finally began practicing with the team. Despite practicing, Lattimore did not play in this Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Rams.
Unfortunately, ESPN is now reporting Lattimore has decided to step away from football. Lattimore’s agent has denied the report, saying his client has not made a decision regarding his future. Tough to see a guy suffer such a gruesome injury, work so hard to come back, and it still not make it all the way back. Playing football may not be in the cards for the running back, but many good things are still in his future.
