The Dark Knight’s watch is over for the 2016 season. Earlier today it was confirmed that Matt Harvey will have season ending surgery to address the thoracic outlet syndrome affecting his right shoulder. The right hander was placed on the 15-day disabled list earlier this week, before finding out he was suffering from the condition.
Thoracic Outlet Syndrome compresses nerves and blood vessels in the shoulder area, and is often fixed when the patient has a rib removed. This is the second time that Harvey will undergo a season ending surgery, having his 2014 season put on hold to rehab from the feared Tommy John surgery.
Harvey’s struggles were well noted by baseball watchers everywhere. His inability to control his pitches and pound the zone found him posting a 4-10 record and an astounding 4.86 ERA for the 2016 campaign.
Get well soon Harvey.
