Yesterday Mets fans had quite the scare when pitching ace Matt Harvey was scratched from his final Spring Training start. Harvey, who was scheduled to pitch today, was said to be dealing with an undisclosed injury. Immediately, fans remembered the day it was announced that Harvey was scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery which forced him to sit out for an entire season. The surgically repaired elbow caused major drama as Harvey wanted to pitch as much as possible while his agent Scott Boras and the team felt like he should be on an “innings limit”. Mets officials immediately quelled those fears by saying he had nothing to do with his pitching arm, but it was a “private” matter.
When do things actually stay private in sports? Harvey was in attendance at the Mets game today and announced that he was dealing with a bladder infection. The infection caused blood clots which he passed yesterday and is ready to go for Opening Day once again. The pitcher said he felt “great” after running tests and will prepare for Sunday like any other game. Harvey is set to face off against Kansas City Royals starter Edison Volquez in a World Series rematch. The Royals will wear World Series champions patches on their hats, as if Harvey needed anymore motivation.
