The Mets are really good this season. Â Would you really expect controversy not to follow them? The team which has relied on some incredibly solid starting pitching from the likes of Noah Syndergaard, Jacob deGrom, and of course Matt Harvey. Â Harvey, who missed all of last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, has been having a great bounce back year especially as of late.
Harvey had a 0.33 ERA during the month of August.  While it would seem that the flame thrower is feeling good and pitching without pain, some people are still concerned with the health of his recently repaired elbow.  His agent Scott Boras is claiming doctors have put Harvey on 180-innings pitching limit.  This could be a huge problem if true because he has already pitched over 166 innings meaning he would only be able to pitch in two more games.  This team can finally taste the postseason again and to not have Harvey be ready to pitch could prove detrimental.
However, general manager Sandy Alderson said he will not be putting an inning limits on Harvey to please his agent. Â The team has already announced that the ace will likely skip another start to get some rest for the possibility of playing in October. Â Anderson continued by saying the team had consulted with doctors and Harvey’s surgeon about keeping him healthy after surgery. Â The team also has to worry about giving him too much rest and throwing off his rhythm.
If the decision was up to Harvey it is clear he would pitch as much as possible. Â You can see the anger on his face when he sees manager Terry Collins coming out of the dugout to take him out of the game. Â Obviously keeping an eye on his innings count is important and for once the team is doing the right thing here. Â His agent has Harvey’s best interest in mind when it comes to the huge contract he will likely get in a few years if he stays healthy.
