One team may be completely out of the playoff while the other is greatly considered one of the best teams in the league, but this game is all about the two men on the mound. Matt Harvey vs. Max Scherzer, the two All Star Game starting pitchers will finally square off in a real game. Scherzer is 18-1 and has looked like the greatest pitcher in the American League the entire season. Harvey, on the the other hand, sits at a 9-4 record and already has eight no decisions this season. Not that Harvey has not pitched well, but the Mets, especially without captain David Wright, cannot get their offense going.
Offense is something the Tigers have not had to worry about as they have one of the best 3-4 hitter combinations in the league. Miguel Cabrera may be playing hurt, but he just makes up for it by hitting home runs so he can take his time running the bases. Harvey may have struck Cabrera out during the All-Star Game, but having to face him multiple times will be a challenge for the young flame thrower.
Based on the lack of run support Matt Harvey has received this year, the Mets will probably be baffled by Scherzer and it will be yet another no decision for him. The Tigers are one of the most complete teams which is what makes them incredibly dangerous. Harvey thrives on situations where he is considered the underdog so his pitching will most likely not be the problem (unless he makes a mistake with Cabrera). There will be numerous strikeouts with these two facing out, but the Tigers should get the win in this situation. The Mets do not have the power lineup that can compete with the Tigers. Tigers vs. Mets- who you takin?
