Everyone is overjoyed that football is back on our televisions, but it is so hard to watch players get hurt during preseason. The Dolphins recently acquired tight end Dustin Keller to help boost their offense. Â Miami looked like it was ready to try and compete with the additions of Keller and wide receiver Mike Wallace. Â However, it all came crashing down during last night’s game against the Houston Texans.

While running a routine route, Keller was met by rookie  D.J. Swearinger.  Immediately after the tackle, Keller grabbed his right knee.  It was clear that there was some serious damage  as his leg bent in an irregular fashion.  He was quickly carted off the field and the worst possibility was confirmed after seeing a doctor.  Keller tore his ACL, MCL, and PCL and also dislocated his knee.  As if that was not bad enough, there are reports that doctors fear he may have done damage to the nerves in his leg. Â
Swearinger said that he had aimed low when he went in for the tackle because of the new safety rules implemented this season.  He was worried if he went any higher, he would have been fined by the NFL.  After the game, Swearinger told the media, “If I would have hit him high, I would have gotten a fine. So I think I made the smartest play. I’m sorry it happened and I pray he has a speedy recovery. … Right now it’s just instinct. You see somebody come across the middle, you gotta go low. You’re going to cost your team 15 yards. You’ve got to play within the rules.”
Regardless if you are a Dolphins’ fan or not, it is horrible to see a player suffer an injury like that. Â Keller will miss this season after signing a one-year deal with Miami. Wishing you a speedy recovery Dustin Keller!
