I guess the notion that Michael Sam would be treated just like everyone else went out the window. It was announced today that Sam has been filming his own show for the OWN Network, owned by talk show queen Oprah Winfrey. Cameras have already been following the seventh round draft pick and likely were there when Sam received the call about being drafted by the St. Louis Rams.
If Sam really wants to focus on football, doing a reality show is probably not the best idea. The camera crew is only going to draw more attention and put more focus on him as he attempts to secure a spot on the Rams’ roster. I absolutely respect Sam and his decision to come out publicly before the draft, but all this attention is ridiculous.
