I will admit that people should be given second chances, but this is unbelievable. Michael Vick, the same Michael Vick who spent 18 months in prison for dogfighting, is the proud owner of a dog. Vick has tried to make amends with the animal community by volunteering at the The Humane Society and has spoken out against animal cruelty.
Vick may have changed his ways, but how can we forget just what went on in this man’s house? Animals were brutally killed for sport. There is absolutely nothing right about abusing defenseless animals.
Vick recently got off probation and one of the conditions was that he was not allowed to own a dog. “I understand the strong emotions by some people about our family’s decision to care for a pet,” Vick said in a statement. “As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals. I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God’s creatures with kindness and respect. Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family.”
Owning a pet is a privilege, not a right. He has shown that he can not handle that privilege. I am happy for Vick that he has started a new career in Philadelphia, but what he did cannot be forgotten.

“What he did can not be forgotten.” Okay, but what about forgiven? Should a murderer never be allowed to be near humans again? This is terrific for Mike, his family, the Eagles, the NFL, PETA, the universe. He made a mistake, and he’s making things right.
So you are saying a murderer shouldn’t spend his life in prison? Someone who kills someone while driving drunk should allowed to drive again? I am happy Michael appears to be back on the right track, but innocent animals were brutally killed for no reason.
Well I’ll admit the murderer comparison isn’t the best (although plenty of murderers have reformed and re-entered society) but putting the lives of people at risk and owning an animal are different things. What do you think he’s going to do to his dog while living with his wife and kids? It’s a safe situation for everyone.
I am sure it is a safe situation, but its just not right. He killed defenseless animals. I have lived with an abused animal so I am partially biased and it is just so sad.
