At 3:00PM today, they suggest we all take this time to practice some form of self care. Employers, entrepreneurs, and coaches can choose to take this opportunity and speak to your employees and/or athletes about self-care and resources for mental health issues. You could also consider a group meditation or conversation around mindfulness.

There is a tremendous amount of physical stress placed on athletes so it is vital we consider how that affects their mental health. Although I firmly believe that physical exercise and being a part of a team is an incredible asset to brain health, the extreme should be considered. We can place just as much importance on mental strength and conditioning as we do on physical. Including an opportunity for athletes to discuss and practice self care requires encouragement from leaders within any organization.
It is my hope that you take advantage of this mental health break today and the days that follow. I am encouraged that this initiative will lead to more open conversations about the importance of mental health breaks and resources. I am personally scheduled at 3pm today to use the nap pod in my well certified collaborative workspace for 20 minutes at The Ring.
Research indicates that short daytime naps hold benefits for employees and employers. Naps offer improved working memory, better performance, reduced anxiety and depression. This can ultimately be applied to all of our women in sports too. The self-care mindset leads to achieving lasting success.
Bravo Naomi Hirabayashi and Marah Lidey of Shine, we are following your lead today.
