Today was the NBA trade deadline and it did not disappoint! Over thirty players are now playing for new teams. Here is a look at some of the biggest deals:
-Goran Dragic did not hide his unhappiness with the Suns organization. Dragic said he was interested in playing for the Knicks, Lakers, or Heat. Leave it to Pat Riley to get a deal done that got Goran Dragic and his brother Zoran to Miami. The Heat sent Danny Granger, Norris Cole, Justin Hamilton, Shawne Williams, and two first round draft picks. They sent a lot, but a point guard is exactly what the Heat needed. Dragic was mostly unhappy with his limited playing time, but he can definitely expect his minutes to be increased.
-Kevin Garnett waived his no-trade clause and is headed back to Minnesota where it all began. This might not make a difference in the playoffs, but it is quite a nice way for the future Hall of Famer to end his career. Garnett and the Nets never worked out like they had wanted and it would be great to see Garnett mentor the very young Timberwolves team.
-At one time, the Sixers seemed like they were going to build a team around point guard Michael Carter-Williams. It looked like they were trying to tank this season to possibly get one of the bigs in this year’s draft to complement that theory. However, Carter-Williams is on his way to Milwaukee and Brandon Knight will now play point guard in Philadelphia.
– Simliar to the Garnett trade, Tayshaun Prince is headed back to Detroit. Prince played for the Pistons up until 2013 and won a championship in 2004 with the team. Prince was traded when Detroit started rebuilding. Detroit was also involved in a three team trade with Oklahoma City and Utah. The Pistons picked up Reggie Jackson, while the Thunder got DJ Augustin, Kyle Singler, and a 2019 second round draft pick, and the Jazz received Detroit’s 2017 second round draft pick.
