Rumors are swirling that the University of Maryland is planning on leaving the ACC and joining the Big Ten Conference. Sources say that if this deal does go through, the new powerhouse in football, Rutgers University, will follow right behind. While nothing has been confirmed, there are some signs pointing toward the move happening. Maryland has dropped seven of its sports due to financial constraints. Schools in the Big Ten each received $24.6 million in revenue making it the nation’s richest conference. If Maryland did leave the ACC, University of Connecticut would likely take its place.
Rutgers is currently in sole possession of first place in the Big East and is looking to win it’s first Big East Championship in school history. They had an impressive win today against Big East rival Cincinnati nearly pulling off the shut out. Quarterback Gary Nova looked shaky in the first half in which he threw two interceptions including one in the end zone to end the first half.
However, Rutgers came up with a big stop on fourth and inches in which Cincinnati was at the Rutgers’ ten yard line, that changed the game. Backup running back up Savon Huggins had a huge game for Rutgers after it was found out that Jawan Jamison was still not 100 percent after he suffered an ankle injury during last week’s game. Huggins carried the majority of the work load and finished the day with 41 carries for 179 yards.
